Come support your favorite birds two weekends in October! Including this one coming right up...
October 6th - HUGE Rummage Sale with lots of great items, from furniture to art and jewelry and tools - from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. At Sponsors, Inc., 867 Blair (8th & Blair in Eugene). Some of our resident birds will be there to charm and fascinate you while you pick up treasures for reuse. Thank you, Sponsors for allowing us the use of their space for a third year in a row! Also consider supporting the sale by cleaning out your garage or spare room by donating good quality items you no longer need ... contact us at 541/485-1320 for more information. PLEASE: no clothes or computer equipment.
October 19th - A Celebration of Raptors with John Hendrickson - 7:30 pm - Agate Hall Auditorium (18th & Agate in Eugene). A benefit for the birds - $10 per person ($8 for CRC members).
CRC is delighted to invite you to an evening with nationally recognized, award-winning nature photographer John Hendrickson. His photographs have been published in Audubon, National Geographic, National Wildlife and many other natural history journals and exhibits. With his Master's degree in field biology and environmental education, John's enthusiasm for the wild world is unparalleled. His storytelling ability is also second to none. This entertaining and inspirational program celebrates the beauty of raptors with exceptional photography and fascinating information from his lifetime of nature study and sharing it through
Several CRC birds and handlers will also be present to engage your attention and answer your questions. Come early! First come, first served. Hope to see you there!
Please note that CRC will change to its winter schedule at the beginning of November. Though we are still open Tuesday through Sunday (plus Monday holidays) - from November 1st through March 31st, we will be open from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm, and Handler Talks will be once a day on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 pm. After the first hard freeze, we'll be lifting the mosquito screens, too.
Plan to come meet our three new resident birds: Tiresias, a young, visually-impaired Northern Saw-whet Owl who has delighted us as she has molted from her baby fuzz to full adult plumage in the last month; and Orion, a male Golden Eagle. Orion was transferred to us recently from the High Desert Museum in Bend, after 17 years there. Our female Golden Eagle will be happy to have a roommate again, and we are delighted to have an eagle who can be presented up close on the glove. And finally Bodhi, a young Barred Owl who was blown out of his nest earlier this spring. He too has finally graduated to adult feathers (after a teenage rebel period with a 'mullet'). Some of you may have met Bodhi at Handler Talks this summer but October will be his formal debut!
We also extend our sincere gratitude to EPUD (Emerald People's Utility District) for their amazing work during United Way's Days of Caring this month ... more on that later, plus pictures!
Stay tuned for more news coming up by email and in our annual print newsletter. Thanks for your interest and support. As a community supported non-profit, we couldn't do this important
